“Translating Social Capital Into Financial Capital”
Rewarding Africa’s Youth For Becoming Agents Of Change In Their Communities
An Innovative Digital Currency
Young Africa REWARDS is a clever way to help individual donors or institutional grantmakers who want to help uplift poverty-stricken communities in Africa to multiply the socio-economic impact of their valuable gifts THREEFOLD!
Using state-of-the-art technology, the Young Africa FOUNDATION, a non-profit company established in South Africa in 2018 to raise funds to support youth development across the continent of Africa, has partnered with the software company, econovix, owned by the Founder of the Young Africa VISION and originator of the Young Africa REWARDS system, Reinhild Niebuhr, to offer this unique solution to triple the social impact of any grant funding to the Young Africa FOUNDATION NPC. All entities were established and initiated for this purpose by their Founder.
Objective
The Objective of Young Africa REWARDS is to make it possible for unemployed youth who are registered as students of the Leadership And Entrepreneurship Programme (LEAP) of the ACADEMY For A Young Africa to participate in an internship at a local non-profit organisation serving their own community, while earning reward points for their time.
These reward points may then be exchanged for vouchers to pay for products and services by approved participating local retailers and other service providers. The Young Africa FOUNDATION NPC raises grant funding to provide a monetary value to the digital points.
In this way, a TRIPLE OBJECTIVE can be achieved, namely
1) an unemployed youth is prepared for the world of work through an internship,
2) a local non-profit organisation benefits from increased capacity through the assistance provided by the intern, and
3) the local economy is stimulated because the youth interns can use the rewards earned to pay for critical products and services, mainly those provided in their own hometown or village.
The Rationale
The reason why the Young Africa REWARDS system was developed is because often youth are driven by emotions and peer pressure, instead of by logical thinking. It’s quite normal for a young guy to want to spend any hard-earned money on paying for the hairstyle of his girlfriend! Or for a young girl to want to spend her money on a new pair of jeans to look ‘cool’. These are still harmless expenses and can also help to drive local economies. However, in the worst case scenario, having an income can also mean that a young person continues the bad habit of spending this income on alcohol or drugs or smoking, which are all self-destructive behaviours!
The intention of the Young Africa VISION and all its instruments, is to help Africa’s youth to be “WOKE” and to carefully consider each choice made, in order to apply any own resources in the most effective manner to sustain their lives and to contribute to their career or entreprise-readiness, while contributing to the socio-economic upliftment of their own communities.
So the Young Africa FOUNDATION, in partnership with the Satellite Campuses of the ACADEMY For A Young Africa, works to identify partner enterprises in each village across Africa, who then undertake to only accept voucher payments for pre-approved products and services. In this way, we hope to prevent that youth spend their rewards earned while undergoing an internship on imported products, which ultimately again cause an outflow of capital from the continent of Africa, or on addictive substances, which cause health and social issues, or on items which have a negative environmental impact. In this way, the Young Africa REWARDS system serves as an instrument to redirect spending and the flow of money, to best contribute to socio-economic development of communities across Africa.
The Young Africa REWARDS system is a digital currency with a CONSCIENCE!
How This Works
The company which provides the software systems to manage Young Africa REWARDS is called econovix. This company has been established by the Founder of the Young Africa VISION specifically with the purpose to drive the development and growth of enterprises in the digital economy, so as to create opportunities for Africa’s 200 million unemployed youth. Through econovix, the Young Africa FOUNDATION NPC can provide an innovative digital currency system that has been designed specifically to translate the social capital (time and skills) of unemployed youth across Africa, into financial capital, using a digital point system. This enables participating youth to receive rewards in the form of points, which may then be exchanged for vouchers to pay for products and services of approved local retailers and other service providers registered on the econovix online marketplace.
“When I conceptualised the systems to help Africa’s youth to transform the continent, I realised that we need state-of-the-art technology to support this process, while providing 100% transparency and accountability. Young Africa REWARDS is a solution that has NEVER BEFORE been possible! The digital economy enables NEW WAYS of driving socio-economic change, including the most critical change of all: MINDSET and BEHAVIOURAL transformation! I don’t take any credit for this idea: it simply arrived in my mind overnight one day, more than 20 years ago! All glory goes to God, our Father and Creator, in the name of his Son Jesus Christ, who has opened the doors for me to enable this software system.”

Explaining the Process
Here is a step-by-step explanation of HOW the Young Africa REWARDS system works:
Step 1: The Young Africa FOUNDATION NPC raises funds to support the development of youth across Africa. Please look at the website page explaining this organisation by clicking on this link.
Step 2: Unemployed youth register as students for the Leadership And Entrepreneurship Programme (LEAP) of the ACADEMY For A Young Africa. Please look at the website page explaining the academy by clicking on this link.
Step 3: The ACADEMY For A Young Africa (AFAYA) invites partners to establish SATELLITE CAMPUSES wherever there are registered LEAP students, anywhere across Africa. Please look at the website page explaining the AFAYA SATELLITE CAMPUS application process by clicking on this link.
Step 4: AFAYA SATELLITE CAMPUS entities either identify local non-profit organisations which are able to host LEAP students as interns, or – if the AFAYA SATELLITE CAMPUS partner is itself a registered non-profit organisation in good standing with its tax system – it can host LEAP students as interns itself. Any non-profit organisation which is willing and able to host LEAP students as interns will receive funding to finance the position of one employee per 100 LEAP students as the AFAYA Internship Coordinator, as well as the related direct expenses, to manage the AFAYA Internship Programme. The ACADEMY For A Young Africa provides clear guidelines on the Job Descriptions of any interns, that are defined in line with the non-profit organisations’ objectives and programmes. All tasks by the LEAP interns are easily managed using state-of-the-art mobile apps, which provide real-time insight into the activities and productivity of each LEAP intern. LEAP interns do not receive a standard monthly point number: each task they complete results in points being awarded. In this way, hardworking interns can earn the maximum number of points available, while interns who are ‘slacking’ only receive points for the tasks actually completed satisfactorily. In this way, a LEAP intern learns the importance of performance vs reward, which is so important in the world of work!
Step 5: Both the AFAYA Internship Coordinator and the LEAP students work to identify potential local retailers and service providers who are suitable and willing to participate in the Young Africa REWARDS programme. Such retailers and service providers have to sign up as ‘vendors’ on the econovix online marketplace, in order to list the products and services which they sell, so that LEAP student interns may pay for them using Young Africa REWARDS points. These points are translated into econovix DIGITAL VOUCHERS, using an approval process managed by the organisation hosting the interns, and confirmed by the AFAYA Internship Coordinator. The ACADEMY For A Young Africa provides an App that makes this point system management very easy!
Step 6: Once a month, the points earned by a LEAP student intern are transferred by the Young Africa FOUNDATION as a paid-for VOUCHER to their own account on the econovix online marketplace. The Young Africa FOUNDATION uses state-of-the-art technology to process these transactions, intern by intern. Donors and institutional grantmakers to the Young Africa FOUNDATION can log into an app to view the amount of their grantfunding that has been ‘earned’ by and therefore granted to, an individual LEAP student intern. Donors and institutional grantmakers also have access to a digital app, that allows them to communicate directly with all LEAP student interns that they are funding. Of course, this is a choice by each donor or grantmaker, as to whether they wish to have such personal contact with the LEAP student intern whom they are funding, or not!
Step 7: The LEAP student intern can then use the VOUCHER amount received each month on the basis of the points earned for tasks completed at the host organisation, to pay for products and services on the econovix online marketplace.
NOTE: Young Africa INVESTMENTS works to build franchise-based businesses in every community where there is an AFAYA SATELLITE CAMPUS. All these businesses use the econovix online marketplace for all financial transactions. These franchise businesses will be owned by former LEAP students or by other local entrepreneurs based in these areas. In this way the Young Africa VISION, powered by the software systems developed by econovix, ensures local economic development in communities across Africa.
Our Commitment To Accountability
Young Africa REWARDS uses state-of-the-art financial management software to keep track of every single cent received as grant to fund the Young Africa REWARDS. Grantmakers and donors can pinpoint in real-time how any funds received have been deployed. Social investors receive access to this system to view the flow of their funds in real-time.
“The Young Africa REWARDS System is an innovative digital currency system which ensures that any grantmaker or donor receives ‘triple bang for their buck’. Make your donation count – THREE TIMES!”
Reinhild Niebuhr – Founder, Young Africa VISION
